Bearing arms together in defense of their country remains linked with Ancient Greek Culture. […] In the present day, many try to reenact the “Hoplite Experience”, those with a keen interest, look by researching the development of a Hoplite’s armour and weapons, even to his political importance as a warrior citizen of the Classical period.

At the moment a few reenactor’s use “Artistic license” to portray their own interpretation, which may conflict with historical accuracy. However, Roman reenactor’s are limited due to the strict uniformity of the period and can not expand further, but their experience is keenly sort after by hoplite reenactor’s in general.

Codes of Conduct, Rules of Engagement and Guidelines that Hoplite reenactor’s are required to comply with, are enforced by Living History Institution’s. There will always be a difference of opinion between historical academia and reenactor’s (their poorer cousine) when interpreting ancient literature or examining ancient artifacts.
