The forthcoming and under production Concise Guide To Spartan Art is the first issue of a volume series entitled Σparta Supplements — five (5) fully colored and illustrated minimum eight (8) paged booklets. They will cover a every each cultural, military and political subject that has to do with ancient Sparta.
The first booklet was decided to be a concise guide to ancient Spartan art, that stretches back to the Bronze era, to the Archaic and ends at the Roman times. The research will involve brief reference quotes from current archaeological research on this subject, as well as, extremely interesting art critics in the form of appraisals on chosen artistic material throughout the Spartan history.
The Σparta Supplements will be an Open Access (OA) material (read the Wikipedia), which in brief means that the items will be available with no charge freely in both electronic and print.
Why OA? The material that will be presented and published are original academic research, with material even unpublished and unseen. This original research have to be published under the OA initiative because: it acknowledges the authors, illustrators and photographers in full, protects their copyright rights but at the same time circulates his work in greater numbers and provides individuals who are truly interested in such subjects the power of accessing with no cost the material and use for their own studies. In short, it is indeed the “golden root” for such an endeavour!
However, expenses of production are high. The authors, illustrators and photographers have to be paid the appropriate amount of moneys for their research’s costs. It would be inappropriate such a costly endeavour not to have an efficient, additional, support for the common good. Therefore, ransoms / donations are needed.
You have the freedom to chose your prize for this endeavour according to your personal evaluation for it. You can even let the time pass, till others with the same interest would be more gracious than you to donate. If you indeed care you should donate, and give both to you, the authors, and to all others the opportunity to have this material for free.
